About (longer version)
This is a place for beloved, amusing, wretched, fantastical, shocking stories. In our bones we believe that stories connect us to our ancestors and to each other. They are, above all else, how we make sense of who we are. A little mixtape (sorry, playlist) here, a film there, a comfort show, a character; sprinkle in a few life events, some close attachments, some strong smells and suddenly you have the incredible, singular narrative of you. We don’t know how your story ends, but we want to know about the art helping you write it.
And so we are Love Interests Media: a nonprofit celebrating human survival and imagination.
We run a series of local editions, each one zooming in on a different community, where we set up camp to host free writing and arts workshops across schools, care homes, hospitals, and community spaces, culminating in a professionally produced zine celebrating that neighbourhood's intergenerational stories. The strongest pieces then go on into our main issue alongside international submissions, so each local community's stories reach a wider readership beyond their own edition. We also give back to the planet, because without a healthy world, there will be no more stories left to tell.
And we are still in our humble beginnings! If the work we do speaks to you, and you want to be part of it, say hi. We're friendly. [email protected]
